The Bible says that the church matters. The church is the group of people who are committed to following Jesus Christ together.
First Timothy 3:15 says that the church is the ground and pillar of the truth; it’s where God’s truth is taught and protected. The Bible says that the church matters so much to Jesus that He watches over His church. In Revelation 2 and 3 it’s obvious that Jesus knows specific churches inside and out. (Makes you wonder what Jesus thinks about our individual churches!) He knows all about them. He knows the role we’re playing and the help we’re giving, or the conflict going on inside the walls. He knows each of our victories and defeat in detail.
Why does the church matter to God? Ephesians 5:25 says that Christ loves the church and gave Himself for it. Sacrificially. Passionately. Unconditionally.
If you ever wonder why it’s important to be a part of your local church, remember this: the church matters to God.
On this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. Matthew 16:18
